Murray Girls is one of the Oldest Schools in the Country, having started in 1905 as a Mission Centre offering Technical Education. By then it was known as Coast Girls’ School.
The school was later named after Lady Marjorie Murray who took over the running of the school in 1951. The school has since grown from one stream in 1958, two in 1975, three in 1980, five in 2015 and seven in 2021.
Murray Girls’ has tremendously made significant strides in attaining spectacular achievements in both Education and Co-curricular Spheres. For the last three years the mean score has improved from 6.30 to 6.90 and 7.36 in 2018, 2019 and 2020 consecutively. It is notable that in the last five years, the student population has risen from 700 students in 2018 to the current 1209 in 2022.
Despite the remarkable growth, the school faces challenges which if addressed using a multi-sectoral approach will provide an enabling Environment for the school to continuously achieve its Vision and Mission.
The current Strategic Plan aims at providing direction to the school in the next five years 2022 – 2027. The Stra- tegic Plan include: inadequate infrastructure, security, expansion of existing facilities and academic progres- sion. Sources of funding to facilitate implementation of the strategies will be of paramount importance. It is my conviction that Murray girls’ will achieve and maintain academic excellence for the period stated.
MR. DAVID LENJO
CHAIRPERSON,
BOARD OF MANAGEMENT, MURRAY GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.
FORWARD BY THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Murray Girls’ High School is in a steady state of growth in terms of Infrastructure, student population and staffing.
The key priority areas of the school will be creating a conducive learning environment that is responsive and accommodative of the rapid growth.
Academic excellence being the core business, any im- provement in academic performance, will be deter- mined by adequate provision of classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, teaching/learning materials and a stable vibrant teaching and non teaching staff. In addition to the looming transition to CBC by 2023, the school must be prepared wholesomely.
The school leadership will pay specific attention to secu- rity of the increasing student population, alternative sources of funding such as income generating activities to supplement parents’ levies, government FSE Funding and grants.
Mobilization of stakeholders including the school alumni will be an important consideration during budgeting.
With prudent management of available resources, the school leadership can steer Murray Girls to greater heights, as stipulated in the current Strategic Plan.
MRS. DEBORAH W. OKWATSA
CHIEF PRINCIPAL AND SECRETARY BOM, MURRAY GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL.
